Experimental Verification of a Realistic Input Model for Polyhedral Terrains

چکیده
A realistic input model for polyhedral terrains was introduced in [16]. With this model, improved upper and lower bounds on the combinatorial complexity of visibility and distance structures on these terrains were obtained. In this paper, we perform experiments with realworld data to determine how realistic the assumptions of that input model are, by examining what the values of the model parameters are in practice. We consider the results of these experiments as evidence that the assumptions of the model are probably realistic: they are all satisfied by the terrains that we generated from GIS data. Moreover, we evaluate the complexity of the visibility map in these terrains by counting vertices of the visibility maps for different viewpoints.

horizon map Representing the Visibility Structure of a Polyhedral Terrain through a Horizon Map We present a model for describing the visibility of a polyhedral terrain from a xed viewpoint, based on a collection of nested horizons. We brie y introduce the concepts of mathematical and digital terrain models, and some background notions for visibility problems on terrains. Then, we de ne horizon...
متن کاملSimulation and Experimental Verification of Closed Loop Operation of Buck / Boost DC-DC Converter with Soft Switching
A major problem in an isolated DC/DC converters operating at high switching frequencies is the attendant switching losses in the semiconductor devices. This can be reduced by introducing either zero-voltage switching (ZVS) or zero-current switching (ZCS) of the semiconductor switches. This paper deals with the simulation, design, fabrication and experimental evaluation of a novel soft-switching...
متن کاملImpact of Input Pump Profile on the Gain Spectrum and the Saturation Behavior of One-Pump Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers
In this article, the impact of input pump profile on the gain spectrum as well as the saturation behavior of one-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers (FOPAs) is investigated. Since in practical circumstances, pump sources used for FOPAs have Lorentz-Gaussian profile instead of Gaussian, a more realistic case is considered for simulating FOPAs in this article. The results of simulations for ...
متن کاملMatching Terrains under a Linear Transformation∗
We study the problem of matching two polyhedral terrains, where one can be changed vertically by a linear transformation of the third coordinate (scaling and translation). We give an algorithm that minimizes the maximum distance over all linear transformations in O(npolylog n) expected time. We also study matching two 1-dimensional terrains, and give a (1+ ε)-approximation algorithm for minimiz...
